This week we are going to dive into the steps that we can take to ensure that the mental health and wellbeing of the veterinary workforce is getting the attention and care that it deserves.
It is impossible to connect this trend back to a single cause or issue because there isn’t just one issue at play: the practice of veterinary medicine is a “perfect storm” of factors coming together to put veterinary healthcare workers at risk of depression and suicide.
NOMV feels a lot like family. So getting to know as many of the team members as possible and, once it’s safe to travel after COVID, meeting in person is what I hope to do in the future.
Mental wellbeing is an entity that is easily left behind in the veterinary field, and I want to be part of a group of experts that cultivate a very much needed change.
Realizing the vision & impact that NOMV has for the veterinary community – there are so many amazing projects happening across all of our focus areas that will directly impact our colleague’s lives in a positive way.
On July 1, 2021, NOMV Inc. will deploy a new program within the NOMV Education Committee called NOMV Ambassadors. The mission of the NOMV Ambassador Program is to add local support networks to unite and support the veterinary community at the local level.
I love being a part of all of the incredible and important changes that are currently happening and will continue to happen in vet med.
Beginning June 1st, NOMV is launching a volunteer book club! This initiative is a branch of our ever-growing NOMV Education Committee and is led by volunteer Sarah Marzulli.
Why do you volunteer for NOMV?
It’s an amazing organization looking to help the veterinary community, if I can be a part of that and the reason somebody stays on this earth, that’s all I can ask for.
